Hi Scedule A!
I am RN from Moldova, waiting for DS230 approval since October 2006.
Are there anyone in the same situation?
It seems to me that no one care about nurses on this forum. So I decided to highlight the problem briefly.
Why should nurses have their personal immigration schedule and different faster line?
1 - The shortage of nurses is more severe then ever in the US history. The fact is confirmed by DOS, The American Hospital Asociation, and the Coalition to Improve Healthcare Staffing.
2 - Existing mechanisms are not able to improve the situation, Vice versa, the situation is going to be vorce in the near future.
3 - Healthcare is one of the most relevant aspects of national economy, because it affects all other spheres of the economy.
4 - The preimmigration qualifining process for nurses is long, expensive, and complicated. Aproximately 2 - 3 years (CP or CES, NCLEX-RN, IELTS, or TOEFL+TSE) long, and $5000 - $7000 cost. If we add these 2-3 years to the period of immigration we will have outstanding 5 - 9 years of waiting! And we should bare in mind that this is the only way for nurses.
5 - From the last 50000 visas for Schedule A only 17000 were used by nurses and PT, other were used by their spouses and children. So the actual number of nurses intered the US is realy small.
The situation is critical!
As far as I see the problem, the only choice for us is allocation of visa numbers(recaptured or new) directly for schedule A. All other options are not good enought either for nurses or for the US Healthcare, because now we are in EB3 and have to compete with other professionals in the respective category. So we have to wait for 4 -5 years to get our CG. And practicaly, as I mentioned above, the GC is the only option for nurses, because emploiers do not want to sponsor us for a non immigrant visas.
Actually nurses have the H1c visa, but there are only 500 a year and only 14 hospitals in the whole country can apply for these visas. These visas last 3 years and after that the nurse has to leave the country. Not that employers don't want to apply for visas, it is just that many nursing positions DO NOT qualify for H1B! So the only viable option for nurses is the GC!

I am on EAD and no H1B. I am looking for a house to buy. But wonder sometimes if I should wait till GC.
I have pending 485, used Bank of America for my home loan. No problems whatsoever. And, I know loads of people who have bought homes while on H1B or pending 140/485. I believe 2009-2011 will probably be the best time to buy a home. If you can afford it and if you have job security, then you must buy one (rent it if you dont want to live). The aprs available currently is unbelievable (of course, good credit history and the amount you put down will decide mainly).

I feel that initiator of this thread is not trying a coup d'�tat. He is merely pointing to the fact that every organization runs by elected officials. Having a life term president and core group is only heard in autocratic systems but not in a democratic one. What are we as an organization?
Why are we afraid of discussing new ideas? Why shouldn't we open up IV organization for elections? There is nothing wrong in declaring the rules and then playing by those rules.
So I completely support the guy who came up with this suggestion.

I think you are wrong. When the application is entered into the system that date is called Notice date. Receipt date would be the date USCIS recieves the application.
Receipt date is not the date when the application reaches the service center. It is infact the date when your application is entered into their internal system which could be several days after the application has reached the service center.

Other than the visa recapture, I guess at this point there isn't a whole lot we can do. I guess when we applied for GC we basically pawned our life to USCIS.
It is kind of sad that when they had visa available they weren't able to approve the cases before April '03. Pathetic!!
Enough of venting.... hopefully things might work out for the better this year!

Not sure if anyone else has faced this so wanted to put this out: I own a home and have a loan on it since 2003 (I was on H1 when i took the loan), now that the ARM is about to adjust i am in the market for refinance.
There is however a question on all the loans underwritten by freddy/fanny asking for immigration status and if the answer is EAD the loan is denied. They even sent me an explanation of denial.....:confused:

Why is there so much discussion surrounding this stimulus package, I thought all of were highly skilled, high educated clique who made the big $$.
I have seen numerous occasions where people boast of large pay packets, bill rates, and now this is a measly $1,200, an amount that could be made with working 2 days is generating such a huge discussion. This does not add up???

Challenge is USCIS. Thats OUR ONLY TARGET.
So we stop the porting, you think you will get your Green Card quicker?.
I say this again, stop this, focus all your energy on USCIS. Dont waste on talking EB2/EB3 when you know it wont really fix the issue.
